Borders bookstore on Oxford Street is a centrally located haven for all bibliophiles. The selection is excellent in English literature, and there is a small number of books in other languages, too.

They sell also CDs, maps and other stuff usually associated with a bookstore. There is a Starbucks café to rest your feet while browsing through the shelves.

Unlike most of the other stores in London, bookstores are open till late — it is always fun to visit the photography section in late hours to see several men flipping through the more adult oriented photoshoot books.

Books are surprisingly expensive in the United Kingdom — but usually there are possibilities to bundle several books together and get them cheaper. This deal excludes bestsellers and all books outside the mainstream, but gives just enough options to buy a few books for the aeroplane.

After a short strike, the taxi drivers have obtained a raise of 3.1 pct (1st march 2008).
The maximum price is :
- a fix of 3.22 euros
+ 0.88 euros per kilometer
+29.61 euros per hour when they are still (in a traffic jam for example) or at a very low speed.

The average cost within Paris is 12 to 20 euros. From an airport : 60 to 80 euros on Sunday (my personal experience) according to the distance and time.

If you start from a Railway station : + 1€ per luggage.
The normal gratuity (tip) is 10%.
Some accept credit cards.

The best way to find a taxi is to go to a taxi station, generally at the corner of the street (there are 15.000 taxis in Paris but it is not enough for the demand). But if its roof light is on, you can call a taxi by the street when you are sufficiently lucky.

There are 3 places in a taxi, 4 if the driver accepts a person at its right (we are not in London).

The taxi drivers do not generally speak English (some do not speak correctly French) and they are often rude because it is not a profitable job. Be indulgent.

The Buffet is most known for the dinners, especially on the weekends when they have King Crab, Filet Mignon, etc. But at the price of $50 per person, not including drinks, it made it a bit tricky to talk my dad and aunt into. So I got my way with breakfast, a more economical $20 meal.

However, when I turned 21…so…5 years ago I went for the dinner with my grandma and mom and it was yummy. In fact, I blame Bellagio for giving me my obsession with sushi!

It’s very nice. I would highly recommend going at an off-hour before the lines get long. On Fridays and Saturday nights plan to wait (standing) for about an hour. And they don’t give you a buzzer thing, either. It’s right in front of the casino too so it kinda sucks watching all those people having fun and you’re waiting in line for an hour.

But, I digress, back to breakfast. The breakfast was delicious. Anything you could ask for … in every country. And during breakfast you can continue to bet with the game of Keeno (alike Bingo and/or the lottery.

The only people I wouldn’t recommend this for would be….those dieting!

Favorite Dish: My favorite this time would have to be the breakfast pizza, crispy bacon and scrambled eggs. Waffle bars were available too as well as all the fresh fruit you could eat.

Address: Inside the Bellagio

There is such any array of unique and original jewelry pieces here. You can also hand pick individual rocks, gems, and semi-precious stones for custom made work. I was drawn to the huge crystals that were at least a foot long and 2 or 3 inches in diameter.

The clerks were friendly and very patient with us while we pondered endlessly handpicking stones and gems we wanted to bring home.

They had various reading material on the subject of gems and lapidary and an assortment of unique gift ideas. This is definitely a place we will be visiting again.
Open 9:30 A to 6P seven days a week.

What to buy: Stones, gems, hand crafted jewelry.

Since Hurricane Katrina, the fleur de lis has become the symbol of solidarity and resiliance for the people of New Orleans. For those of us who have relocated since then, the items which bring back a taste and memory of the city we love are touchstones to the people we are and the life we left behind.

Lauren (the owner) was there that day, and recommended I visit the larger store on Magazine Street, as they have more accessories. Next time I visit NOLA, I am so there!
