These guys and gals do an awesome job with specialty repairs. Rates are very reasonable too. Repaired a broken lamp base with new metal parts in aboit a week. They don't provide an upfront estimate, which can be initially disconcerting, but found out a rather difficult repair was only about $35. Very pleased with turnaround, cost and quality of work.
OMG!! How do these people stay in business?!? Extremely rude sales staff. Ugly lamps. Low quality look. Messy. These women need to either retire or find a job they like, because they obviously hate customer service. Geez, I'd go back to oil lamps or lanterns before I would buy anything from this sorry excuse of a store.
Middle aged woman greeted us with disdain...disgusted that we did not bring in the entire lamp and shade so that she could provide us with the appropriate "custom" made. Not to mention that there were shelves and shelves of already made "custom" shades. Basically invited us to leave without offering to let us view the "custom" shades. We asked her if we could view the shades on the shelves, and begrudging gave us permission.I have never, ever been treated so rudely or inappropriately by a "sales" person. Apparently they don't need any more business. And will not received any of mine.
We brought shades for 2 lamps to replace them for an updated look. The ladies spoke down to us and refused to help us because we didn't bring the exact lamps. They were rude and gleefully let us know they would not help us. We made a special effort to come to this establishment but will never make this mistake again. Rude comments were the norm so apparently they do not need business.
I should have wriiten a review several years ago when I had 2 lead crystal lamps rewired and new sockets put in. Both sockets have never been stable and on one the socket and turn on switch are constantly turning and unscrew the light bulb.. it would have been cheaper and proper id I had had a neighbor do it. I am now looking for help restoring vintage lamp. After recalling my experience and reading others I obviously need to look for a different lamp store.
Had my antique floor lamp rewired. Can sleep easy knowing this versatile lamp is no longer a fire hazard. Received awesome help picking out a glass diffuser, silk shade, and Jade finial. Wonderful selection and professional service.
Took an antique lamp in for minor repairs. They were unable to repair it and returned it more broken then it was when I dropped it off. Repairman insulted my family heirloom calling it “a piece of junk” bc he wasn’t capable of repairing it. Highly unprofessional.
I needed some parts for a ceiling fixture that I wanted to hang in a new location. Even though clearly their focus is on lamps and not ceiling fixtures, they took the time to find what I needed to make it work. They have a huge selection of table and floor lamps lots of shades in all shapes and sizes. I need a few new shades but they suggest bringing in the lamp so you can try different ones and they can make adjustments so you get the proper fit the first time.Very highly recommended!
Poor Dave hides in the back whilll 2 horribly rude and abusive women chase customers away. Even when I walked into an empty store they were just too busy fermenting in meanness to offer to help. The older one said she couldn't help me with lampshades if I didn't bring a lamp, but it wasn't self-help so I couldn't just go back and look. When another customer came in with a lamp she immediately began helping her, although I told her I had my lamp. So she went in the back and told me someone else will be coming out and five minutes later and unsmiling unhappier younger version of her came out. She interrupted me when I told her what I was looking for and said you had just have to look yourself.Do not waste your time here, unless you're into customer abuse
My grandmother and cousin visited this store a week or so ago and was told by the “sales lady” that their lamps were expensive and that she probably couldn’t afford anything. I’m not sure if this was said, because my grandmother is black, elderly, or what—but I do know that it was rude and very presumptuous and I will encourage everyone that I know not to shop there.
I called Dave Smith the Lamp Maker to get a referral for an electrician that could help me with a chandelier repair. They were so helpful and promptly gave me the recommendation of Brian Riggs at B&J Electric. Brian did a great job repairing the chandelier at our home for a very reasonable price.
I have supported this businesses several times for repairs in the past. When I went there approx. 2 months ago, April, 2017, I was looking for replacement shades for a floor lamp purchased at an estate sale. The middle aged woman at the counter was extremely rude & not helpful, stating I would have to buy U.S. made shades like theirs as I needed the "spider" lower for clearance, not at the top like the cheaper shades made in China which are available on-line & at big box stores. Their shades (very expensive & limited selection) were not in my budget. I left, after stating my discontent at their rude attitude & was determined to check on-line to see if I could find shades within my budget. Check out LAMPS PLUS...pleasantly surprised...great customer service..helps with measurements, style, price, hardware that works for your needs. Bought 2 $20 shades that are perfect...Dave Smith's price for similar was $50-$60 each!! Too bad they can't compete, and obviously lie to customers and don't care..will not return ..if you need local, support Wilson Lighting...we know the owner...very professional, fair, high quality & helpful.
2 visits to this store! First visit I purchased 2 lamp shades from a very rude woman! Visit 2 was today, I was greeted with two smiling faces that immediately Turned to rude and snooty faces!Turned into rude snooty faces when I when
If you're looking to be coddled and cajoled into buying something...find someplace else to spend your money. BUT if you're looking for someone who knows how to repair an antique fixture, of find a beautiful new one, then this is your place. They love lighting and want to do whatever they can to help you with any restoration, or selection of a new piece. They feature Made in America lamp shades, so that put them 10 rungs up the ladder for me. Keep in mind, this is a business - not a social club. If they can't help you, they'll tell you.
We had an incredible experience here. We were doubtful at first because of the reviews, but had heard by word of mouth what a great store this was. We purchased 3 lamps. Bette, the owner, is probably who the google complaints are about but we found her to be an absolutely wonderful woman to work with and was very friendly. This is an "old school" store. If you're looking for big box don't come here. Very charming, great selection. I think these other reviews were way out of line. We will definitely be back!
