Awesome place to visit...they have such a beautiful place...the aquariums they have set up are Soo huge and beautiful..you could stand and stare at the big salt water fish..they also have a huge turtle land you can see turtles openly in a natural habitat..they also have other animals...go check it out..the waterfalls are spectacular with goldfish ponds at bottom...just an amazing place..was there for five hours...fun day for kids they love it...
Staff is friendly and they don't hover. You can hold and pet animals in their enclosures, however be mindful that some of them do bite, and some bite harder than others. As a result of being handled by people regularly, most of the animals learn to be very social with humans. Definitely a wonderful place to visit!
The website said the store had celestial pearl Danios, a type of fish. Not only did the store not have the fish, but they had several questionable animals. The company is a franchise and connected to Petland. I do not support buying puppies from pet stores.
I got my pet rats from here and when I went to the pet store to look at them, Petland had approximately 8-10 rats in a 10 gallon tank. Their cage smelled terrible and the rats were heavily sick. Usually these rats are feeders for snakes, but this store treats them awfully. Even if they are just feeders, they should treat these pets with dignity because they are still animals. Also, with one of my rats, she was so sick that within the next few days, I had to rush her into the vet because she was so sick she almost stopped breathing. Before this happened, we called up petland because she was sick the night after we got her, we asked if we could bring her back in for their vet to look at because she wasn't doing too well. Just because we were two minutes late, the vet apparently left even though we called to let them know we would be late. So we ended up having to take her in or she would have died. These people treat their animals like profit and not like they are a life. The workers there gave me attitude when I wanted to know information about the rats, which was absolutely ridiculous because I'm a customer who is going to end up buying them. The dogs also are in such tiny cages and 2-3 dogs are in the cage with them. This is unacceptable. I've seen the cages full of feces and urine. And these workers are too busy on their phones or talking to each other rather than taking care of the pets. This place should be shut down. No animal should be allowed to be under their care.
Pretty nice pet store. This is definitely the place to go if you're looking for a very specific fish. Not only did they have just about any variety you wanted, but the sizes (and prices) varied wildly too, which is kind of nice.
The store in general is nice. On this visit I had purchased some fish. Couple little angels, female mollies and female swordfish. I get home and the one female mollie is dead and one of the other 2 is a Male. I'm just disappointed. I live in the city it's not like you're around the corner. :(
We are super pleased about our experience here. Price includes some initial vet visits and supplies you'll need right away after your purchase. Low pressure, friendly staff. Financing available. If you pay it off quickly then you can manage your interest rates well.
We bought an adorable Lhasa Opso and he was not only on sale (no one wanted him) 😭💔 But when we took him home we noticed his front paws weren’t normal they are crooked (we’ve had Lhasa’s before) so this was really different. I love my dog but Pet Land doesn’t take care of them very well at all. Sorry to say.
Worst!!! We called to confirm an appointment to see a pet we have sought for 5 years. We drove 25 miles, paid $8.00 in tolls, and arrived as scheduled. When we asked about the pet, we were told it had just been sold. Ridiculous! The calls we made were to a call center, appointment made was not to anybody at the store. Nobody at he store was aware of our appointment. All they could say was, "sorry, did you make a down payment on the phone?"
House reptiles in the wrong substrate. Never use calcium sand especially for leopard geckos. An employee suggested this to me and he kept insisting it was safe. Look up sand impaction if you dare. Don’t sell exotic animals if you can’t even provide right information to paying customers. Puppies eat their own poop, multiple animals housed together in small cages. This is so heartbreaking. If I had the money I would buy this place out so these helpless animals wouldn’t be in misery anymore
Lots of pet knowledge in the helpful staff. Hard to find fish, really good selections for fresh, brackish, African cichlids, and salt fish and coral. Pricing can be high so you may want to buy into their fish club.
This is the place to.go if you are having a bad day or if you're just looking for something to do. I love checking out and petting the animals. The aquarium is amazing and they have every type of fish you can think of!
Absolute garbage customer service overall. The phone number posted on Google is not the store number. It is a number to an automated call center where it is extremely hard to reach a representative to redirect you to the store level. Do not purchase puppies or any animal from here if you plan on using a loan. They refer you to lending USA, a financing company to monitor your loan and it is a scam. Absolutely unprofessional and I am extremely upset and disappointed with Petland. If you would like to purchase a puppy, I would respectfully suggest finding a reliable breeder. I would never recommend Petland to anyone. Horrible service.
THE WORST PET STORE EVERWe visited the Petland in Hoffman Estates on April 30, 2018. The store was very crowded by people because the environment of pet store was very encouraging for everyone to touch the many kinds of animal. Just like everyone else, my son was waiting in a line to touch tiny hamsters. He was very excited to touch the hamsters because there were NO WARNING SIGNS such as 'WE BITE'. As soon as he touched one of tiny hamsters when it was his turn, one of tiny hamsters bit his index finger so badly. He bleed so badly on his fingers. We took my son to one of the employees to show his finger. Even though she heard and saw what was happening to my son, she didn't say sorry to us. She carelessly pointed a facet for us to wash my son's finger with water and gave only one small bandage to the finger of the blood, which flowed continuously and did not give us further directions. We all were disappointed by her customer service. Absolutely, she did not take care of the customer in need. My son's finger, which was bitten by the hamster, swelled so badly that night and we had to take him to the emergency room. Even though we provided Petland headquarter with the medical bills, they neither apologized nor responded to our email. We called them 3 times but they just told us to wait. We have bills to pay but they don't care at all. This is absolutely the worst pet store. DO NOT TOUCH PETS in PETLAND BECAUSE THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING IF YOU GET HURT.
I do not like that people can openly handle some of the animals. I watched 2 girls bother a ferret till it had to bite one of them. Also the wall of glass the puppies are in remind me of Free Whilly where all the kids bang on the glass. The whole place is just a big bummer.
I haven't been in a while but went in yesterday when I was in the area. Was very disappointed in the staff that was there. I was not greeted at all and when I was looking at the cute puppies I saw a lot of then eating there own poop (it was worse on the far side of the kennels). I tried to find a employee to let them know but they were to busy talking amongst themselves. I asked an older gentleman if the person I was working with was still at the store and he told me that she was not working anymore. Her name is hailey (sorry if your name is spelt wrong) but she was awesome. Always going in the back and cleaning up the pool in the kennels when no one else would and we almost gotten some puppies with her but they were never the right one. Please higher better staff!
Being here is like a dream. It bring me back with a ton of good memories. The employees are kind. They let you have time with the animals even if you're not planning to buy. All the animals are super cuter. The fish section is spectacular, you'll want to snap a picture while you're there. It's a great place!
We visit this store often, our experience is usually great. Today, one of the workers talked to me in a very condescending way, I tried to talk to her about it and she repeated herself in a more disgusting tone. I will be sure to remember not to speak to her while in the store, but we do like to shop and look here. Sometimes, they need to take better care of the animal cages, but otherwise it is a good place.
I have never been in a Petland that smelled that bad. It was so unclean. Super busy, no one greeted us, all of the employees were in a huddle in the center of the store - about 4 or 5.There too many large dogs sharing cages on a hot day..also many dogs were eating their own feces...i felt badly for the little pup while these teen employees were bullshitting in the corner laughing it up.....there needs to be standards and i saw none with the employees that were there today....Another thing i saw was how many sick dogs had kennell cough...get your act together these are living beings not just things to have a price tag for sale... I'd fire all their asses today the way I saw the animals being treated now the aquariums different story much better experience and nicer to look at I feel like the animals in the puppies were tortured in those little crates behind the glass.
Absolutely disgusting. The smell...was awful. I have never been in a Petland that smelled that bad. It was so unclean. Super busy, no one greeted us, all of the employees were in a huddle in the center of the store - about 4. There were about 25 customers grabbing pets out of the cages unsupervised. I will not go back to this location..
The staff is so great! This is a great place for kids because they can touch all of the animals and play with the dogs and cats with adult supervision. One side is all aquariums and even a small pond where kids can feed the fish. This place is better than a field trip to the zoo in my opinion because it's free and kids can pet the animals. I have been taking my sons there since they were babies. They even have bday parties there. We recently bought a hamster and the staff was very helpful! I highly recommend this place. It's the best pet store around!
I managed to escape before I bought a bunch of baby bunnies, a Quaker parrot, a bunch of Guinea Pigs, a dog, and a giant salt water tank...I love this place. The fish displays they have amaze me. I love how curious the giant koi are. They had everything that I needed, along with a fish master that helped me get the specific snail species I came for. Thanks guys!
Was told my puppy was offspring of show dogs. Well...he’s got messed up teeth growing out of the same spots so he will need to be put to sleep to have teeth pulled. ALSO, he would sometimes limp and walk funny...turns out he’s got severe genetically malformed bow-legged condition and will need to have leg bones cut then put back together with screws and plates!!! Otherwise, he will suffer earlier on with really bad arthritis and be in pain. This pup is just 7 months right now and will now need to undergo lots of expensive procedures and recovery. Please do your research and reach out to professional breeders or to a rescue!!
Plan to spend an hour and a half on your first trip to this store. You can play with a puppy, feed the coy fish, and enjoy all of the fish, turtles, and reptiles. My kids enjoyed holding the ferrets, hamsters, and guinea pigs. Cool place to play with animals!
Staff bad mouthed certain customers talking to each other in ear shot of dozens of other customers. It was also pretty smelly and had way more people interested in dogs and cats than they had of choices of dogs and cats. Meh.
This store had been highly recommended and now I know why as I the many experiences I had with the staff (in person and on the phone) and how the puppies were treated. I visited many times and knew exactly what I wanted for my next pup. Each and every time, I made an appointment and I was treated with the same kindness and understanding as the sweet girls on the staff knew that I was waiting for a very particular pup and wasn't going to rush into buying one. They never rushed me, they always greeted me with smiles and sweetness as if I had been an old friend. Jocelin was the one that helped me from start to finish the day I did buy my pup and now I consider her my pup's aunt due to how much she wanted him to find a good home and how loving she was to him. She listened so intently when I asked questions and was so patient when I needed things repeated. Each and every staff member loves each animal within in their care SO very much, are all extremely knowledgeable, and honest. I am SO grateful I found Petland and my now adorable new puppy.
Man, I love this place. Two years ago, I got a sweet little cockatiel from here that has changed my life for the better. I've had my fair share of experiences that have caused me to get near the brink of life but the little guy has been with me through all of it and shown me the most unconditional love a bird can show. He's pretty much like a tiny flying dog. The people here are great too. I come in every few months or so, so my bird can get his nails clipped for free. And the people are really helpful, especially Mike. They really know what they're talking about and it's the only pet store in the area I've been to that has people who actually seem to care for their animals. Now, I can't say too much about the dogs because hey, I've never had one but, they seem pretty energetic and playful. This Petland is a pretty dang great place. Great people, great animals and great atmosphere (just gets a little crowded sometimes).
Although Petland is the one advertised, connected to the store is another one that has an astounding selection of fish. Better variety than all the other aquatic store I've seen combined.Want a piranha? They got you.Curious in buying a loach other that the clown-coach-that-grows-to-infinity? Give them a call. They even sell amphibians and reptiles as well.
My experience at the Petland Hoffman Estates was like going to hell. The manager was insolent and use foul language. I had an appointment there to buy a dog and I drove 3 hours. When I made the appointment I told him I was going to have a three-hour Drive and they agreed to to keep the dog for me. When I got there they informed me that they had just sold it. When I complain to the manager he got belligerent and told me he didn't care if I drove 800 miles. What I told him to screw the bad way of doing business. He told me to get out of his damn store. I told him I would have my daughter grandson of myself we're walking toward the door he brushed by me almost knocking me down and told me he showed me the door. I'm 72 and have a bad leg he almost knocked me down. This is disgraceful store and a manager should be fired.
Staff is very friendly and helpful, it has a variety of animals which you can just pet and play with. Very little selection of cats tho.. which I'm kinda disappointed.. I'm a cat person and very few items In Stock for cats too. I got my new beta fish here. They have a large variety of fish and fish supplies on the other side of the room. Would definitely recommend to anyone who has pets or would like to get one! :)
My friend and I went into the store at 8:20 just wanting to pet some of the dogs and look at the animals. Once we found the dog we wanted to play with we told one of the workers and she assured us that we would go once there was an open room. We were waiting 30 minutes and all the rooms were open and the other employees were ignoring us and the lady that was supposed to help us was helping another family buy a dog. Basically, it felt like we were ghosts cause everyone just kept walking around us and ignoring us. They closed at 9 and they started turning all the lights off and finally someone came up to us telling us we couldn't play with the dogs anymore!
Despite selling mostly toothbrushes, this store's names implies that they sell pet related supplies. Extremely misleading. My chihuahua, who was having a dire bout of diarrhea and ruining my passenger seat, required a doggy diaper. I stopped at petland expecting to find some, only to find a large variety of toothbrushes. I still bought them to clean jeffies butt and the car, but it didn't solve the diaper problem. Jeffie had to suffice for a human diaper, which is as humiliating as having a human baby wear a dog diaper. Jeffie is still upset about it. Two stars because I ended up using the toothbrush I used to clean Jeffie and the car with for a prank later, which was disgustingly funny.
The workers seemed to hate their job and the poor puppies had to suffer. The dogs were NOT well socialized and they were very aggressive. We wanted to play with a cavalier king Charles spaniel, and no joke, he came out and just attacked his toys, and if we pet him he growled. I gave him a minute to get used to the little play thing but he just didn't seem to care. A very aggressive and stubborn dog. Not to mention a few minutes in he peed EVERYWHERE! it was on the walls! And then he pooped like at least 8 or 9 times! The employees suck too!
