Wow! This is my new favorite salon! Located off of Western and Armitage; easy street parking. CREATIVE (all the stylists/staff are cool with their own unique look/vibe), Vintage/retro vibe, funky, artsy, warm, friendly, relaxing atmosphere with very cool music. With over 17 years experience, Tyler is the MASTER. She knows how to handle your hair and has a great vision. She also gave me a fabulous neck massage! Couldn't be happier with my hair! I love my cut and color; Can't wait to return in about a month for creative color/special effects. Definitely my "go to" gal!Highly recommend!
Best haircut I have ever gotten! My stylist understood what I was looking for, my style and how I treat my hair, and exactly how my hair moves and waves. I even came in with a bad hair cut that I had given myself and she was able to fix it and give me something really great. I 100% recommend and will be going back.
First of all... These women are wonderful and talented. To elaborate, they always style my hair exactly how im imagining it to be, plus adding their own killer flair. I personally feel that their prices are the best for a salon in the city, and of course for the quality services they provide.I also love that whether you want simple highlights or to totally transform your head, this place can do it all!
I always see Shelby for cut or color and she’s beyond amazing. She’s down to try whatever but gives her honest opinion on what will work best. The quality of the work is fantastic and the prices can’t be beat. I always walk away looking and feeling my best.
I absolutely love this place! Never a disappointment! From the front desk, to the hairstylist....they are all so very sweet and professional. I always see Rosy, she has helped me through my crazy hair journey...and I couldn't be happier. Rosy is very talented and definitely keeps me entertained while I'm in her chair. I drive from the northwest suburbs to see her and its definitely worth the trip!
I've been going to Twisted Scissors for about 1.5 years for men's cuts. I've had a few different people cut my hair and all have been friendly and done a good job. Shelby has been doing a great job on my cuts for the last 5 months. I appreciate the unique vibe of the salon in addition to their great flexibility in terms of hours and days open - very convenient!
Tiffany Kelchen is THE BEST. I have been going to her (and Twisted Scissors) for 10 years, been through a LOT of hair changes, and every cut has been the perfect cut for me at the time. I noticed a trend: whenever I'm single and I get a cut from Tiffany at Twisted, the person I'm crushing on notices me. JUST SAYING. The shop has a great atmosphere, and the staff is very hospitable--they offer everyone a beverage when you check in.
Consistent excellence, Monica, Colleen and everyone else provide the best service, these are the real pros in the city. You are performing a great disservice to yourself if you are turned off by the prices. Don't neglect the way you look, support industry professionals.
Full Disclosure: I love all the women who own and work at Twisted Scissors and Little Sister dearly. My dearest best sister friend of many years worked here till she up and moved to Paris to have her family life there. Thankfully I’m still in GREAT hands with everyone and feel at home with Bethany. I’ve had amazing vibrant color (Read: Full Mermaid) on my waist length hair that was meticulous kept for a couple years and through the pregnancy of my 2nd child. Now, because life is life and I don’t have time for those hours in the chair for color, Bethany and I are teamed up to give me fun and dramatic cuts. It’s perfect. So thankful for this great space and ALL the amazing women who are dedicated to your hair happiness.
Melanie completely turned around my faith in hairdressers in just one appointment! I came to her chair with years of hair neglect and box dyes and left with a beautiful even color and the best haircut I've ever gotten. She actually listened to what I had to say about my hair and the style I was hoping for and the hair cut absolutely reflects that she understood my hair better than I could and really brought out the best in it - exactly what I've always wanted from a stylist!!! and now I've found her! Thank you soooo much, Melanie!
They have some great stylists...I would tell you mine but then you might get my appointment. I have had some other stylists that were less friendly and slightly abrupt. Their prices are reasonable for a salon setting but can be inconsistent as it's based on the stylist (and sometimes their whims). Great place to go for edgy hair cuts or for those needing work place safe mom hair like me.
I went here to get a haircut a while back... I thought the place looked nice but the lady that greeted me wasn't... She was a bit rude, I told her this was my first time here... She didn't look like she wanted to talk to me cause she walked away right away... Which was too bad because I kinda wanted 2know about this place since this was my 1st time here... Cool whatever... Got my haircut and the hair stylist chick seemed cool... Then she told me this place came from New York which was a first sign it was pricey... Oh oh, should've done my homework first... Normally I don't pay $40 for a haircut, I'm a guy who just wants a nice looking clean cut at an affordable price... But I don't recommend this spot to my male friends, unless they wanna spend $30-$40 every few months... Which most won't
I was so excited to cut my hair and it looked ok, until I seen the back of it when I got home. She really messed my back side up :( she didn’t even show me how the back looked like they should with that mirror. I know I should’ve asked but I’ve had barbers that have the decency to tell me they messed up and tell me they’ll try to fix it.
I've been going to Monica since Dakota left (she did a great job and was very friendly). Monica is great with color, and I've gotten many compliments on that. This place is not your typical girlie salon. It's alternative and every stylist has bold colored and cut hair, and usually tattoos. Since I'm not the girlie or fussy type, I like the atmosphere. It's relaxing and cool. I've been coming here for years and made some mistakes in color choice, for which I wish the stylist ran interference. I also wasn't thrilled with my early haircuts either, but I was sort of clueless. But it's worked out since then. I'd come here often if I could afford it (I get all-over color, highlights, and cut, which adds up). There is no other salon like this one.
They're OK. Not really the place if you're a guy though. The wait time has been pretty long the three times I've been here even with an appointment. I've had one great haircut, one satisfactory haircut and one terrible haircut. I will come back though as they are the only place in the area and they do an OK job most times.
Been going to Twisted Scissors for 3 years now. Everyone is very polite and the shop is clean. Located in an area with easy parking. Stylists are very professional and give great cuts/colors. They also serve beer/wine!
These "professional" barbers regularly charge $40 for a haircut but I think because it was almost time for them to close and they wanted to go home, they only charged me $20 and literally did absolutely nothing to my hair other than wash it. The lady cutting my hair seemed like she didn't know what she was doing. She would say "oh that's going to be high maintenance" so I would change my mind and choose a different hair style. Then when I decided to change it she only trimmed a little off the top and left the side undone. She would cut a little bit then step back to see my reaction then cut a little more the waited for my reaction. Seriously? I assume you guys went to school for this, this is your job not mine. I would hope my barber has some "confidence" and believes in the work they are doing rather than Hoping they are doing a good job. she said I could come back to have my hair cut shorter if I wanted and she wouldn't charge me, but after this horrible experience I wouldn't go back there even if it was free! needless to say that was a waste of $25 I wish I never spent there. Save your money and find some real barbers.
I'm not one to write reviews but Monica deserves one. I've been looking for someone to do a good highlight job for over a year and I think I have found my spot. I have thick, long, wavy hair with blonde highlights. I got a partial for $111 which is a pretty good price for what you'll pay at salons downtown. The environment is chill and laid back...no awkwardness. She did a great job and I will definitely go back.
Best salon ever. Sarah has been doing my hair for years now, and she's basically a magician. The girls here are all wonderful and the vibe is always amazing, even when it's totally packed. Parking can be a challenge, so give yourself extra time to drive around. If you get there early, just have some coffee (or beer or wine!) while you wait.
